Digital models from images with superresolution
The digital models of frou globes were created by twice using different methods. In the first case the models were created from single images of the globes' surfaces (same method used for most of the models in the globe virtual gallery). In the second case multiple images of each surface section were used create a superresolution image and the final model was created from these superresolution images.
The selected globes include three globes with the largest diameter (and also weight) among the digitised globes. These were selected for the difficulties in manipulation during image acquisition (due to their size and weight) and therefore potentially lesser quality of source images and highest possible benefit from sharpening. The last example is a globe with very fine drawing where the sharpening should increase legibility of the model
